Imagine walking through a lava tube in Undara Volcanic National Park formed around 190,000 years ago!

The lava tubes are amazing and were formed by a volcano eruption over 190,000 years ago. The Undara tubes form part of the National Park. Undara means a long way in aboriginal language.

A variety of Undara lava tube tours are available as well as many accommodation options including restored railway carriages, tents, cabins, powered van sites and unpowered camp sites.

Tour options and locations

Undara Lava tubes are located 275 kilometres from Cairns Tropical North Queensland Australia. Tour options range from 2 hour lava tube tour to full day Undara tour Please check seasonal availability with us. (For other options please make and inquiry in the form below).

1. ARCHWAY EXPLORER: 2 hour introductory tour visits up to 2 sections of lava tube board walk & steps.

2. VOLCANO VALLEY: Operates 3 days a week april-31 oct, 4 hour tour (subject to availability). Visits 3 sections of lava tubes visits a rocky bluff. (Moderate fitness level, some unlevel walking , short uneven climb).

3 . LOST WORLD: 8 hour tour (subject to availability & operates) 3 days week 1 May-30sept, visits Kalkani Crater 5 sections of lava tube.

4. WILDLIFE AT SUNSET TOUR :

Popular tour for seeing wildlife like kangaroos, wallabies, birds and reptiles. Tour takes place at entrance of one of the tubes where thousands of micro bats emerge from the tube. (Boardwalks, steps, short uneven climb) departs approximately 5pm.
